Wellness and Sustainability In Saratoga

We’ve dialed into the spirit of Saratoga Springs infusing sophistication and tranquility with eco sensitive design. Phinney Design Group of Saratoga Springs has been selected to provide architectural and design services for the two-story, 6,500 square-foot spa and salon at Park Place on Broadway.

Plans were engineered to create a gracious and fluid flow, much like a conch shell, incorporating curved walls, soothing palette and soft and natural lighting. This is apparent upon entry from the street into the retail, salon and manicure/pedicure stations on the first floor. The visual tone of the entry to the second floor further elevates awareness and prepares guests for a unique and relaxing experience.

At the center of the “shell” are men’s and ladies locker facilities. Once guests leave the changing rooms and vanity, the gently curved hallways lead to a relaxation area with eucalyptus steam room, window-wrapped sauna, deluge cold plunge, soaking tubs, fireplace and quiet room. From here, men and women are greeted by spa staff then led to a variety of treatment rooms including massage, Vichy shower, mineral water soaking tubs, facial rooms and more.

The after treatment lounge and an outdoor terrace further encourages guests to relax and leave the world behind in chaise lounges overlooking Congress Park, a beautiful surprise respite with views of the trees, flowers and ponds of Congress Park centrally located in downtown Saratoga Springs. For those who enjoy the benefits a spa offers, annual memberships will be available that include access to the sauna, steam room, relaxation areas, and discounts on services. Members also will have their own private entrance to the spa as well as off street parking in the garage.

“We want our guests to truly disconnect from the daily grind when they walk through our doors. Every design detail serves a purpose to create a relaxed and tranquil atmosphere that will offer all guests an intimate wellness experience,” said Denise Dubois, owner. “Each space was designed to elicit serenity and respite.”

Phinney Design Group has extensive hospitality and spa design experience at such prominent locations as the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, AVEDA Salon & Spa in Saratoga Springs and Crossgates Mall, The Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz and more.

“It was important to unite the history of Saratoga Springs; the health and healing tradition with modern spa comforts in our design concepts,” said Michael Phinney, principal architect, Phinney Design Group. “Natural materials and varied lighting levels are used throughout the spa to create a tranquil Zen-like quality and minimalist interiors support its calm and peaceful environment.”

Complexions Spa at Saratoga Springs will be built to similar same green standards as its premier Gold LEED certified facility in Albany utilizing recyclable, renewable and sustainable materials including low VOC paints, low-voltage lighting, recycled building materials, Energy Star appliances and more. The spa is also utilizing available incentives through New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for use of energy efficient lighting fixtures.

The Saratoga Springs will become the second Upstate New York location for Complexions. The spa is expected to open this summer and will employ 30 to 40 massage therapists, nail technicians, makeup artists, hair stylists, aestheticians and spa coordinators.
