I2PL Skin Rejuvenation FAQ

How can I be sure Ellipse I2PL is safe and effective?

Clinical studies documenting Ellipse I2PL safety and effectiveness have been completed, and the results of these studies are published in respected medical journals. The settings used for your treatment will be based on the settings recommended by the clinicians who carried out the clinical trials. They are also only performed by certified laser technicians.

What can I expect after treatment?

You may notice that the skin looks a little “discolored” for a few days following treatment. Any reddened areas may look a little brighter before they begin to fade. After that, you will find that your skin looks smoother and fresher. You may choose to have one or two annual maintenance treatments in order to keep your youthful appearance.

Do I need to take special precautions before and after treatment?

The light used is a completely safe, visible light. Potential harmful wavelengths are removed by the unique Ellipse I2PL Dual Mode Filtering system. Since tanning takes place by accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin, it is important to avoid tanning (sun, solarium, or self tanning cream) before and during the treatment period. Otherwise, your tanned skin will absorb more light, which may lead to adverse effects. Generally, no post-treatment care is necessary. However, some people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying a cool compress to the treated area to relieve any heat sensation and/or swelling after treatment. Furthermore, it is recommended to use a sunblock which blocks both UVA and UVB rays (minimum SPF 30) following treatment.

Who can be treated?

As skin rejuvenation is based on light absorption by melanin and hemoglobin, treatments are most effective in clients with light skin who are not sun-tanned at the time of the treatment. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the contrast between the brown spots or blood vessels and the skin, making treatment easier. However, Ellipse I2PL has pre-programmed settings for different skin colors that deliver the correct energy output for your complexion.

The best candidates have:

  • red, flushed faces
  • sun-damaged skin
  • hyper pigmentation
  • enlarged pores
  • age spots
  • fine lines & wrinkles
  • dull complexions

Does I2PL Skin Rejuvenation hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation to be similar to the sensation of a rubber band snap on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand piece. Despite wearing protective eye goggles, you will also see a very bright flash of light. Tolerance of pain varies greatly from one person to another. No anesthetics are required in fact, they are discouraged because they constrict the capillaries which can affect results. After treatment, you may have a warming sensation similar to the feeling after a day at the beach.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the area being treated, it is suggested to have a series of two to five treatments. Treatments usually take from 15 to 30 minutes to perform and are administered in our med spa treatment room by a certified laser professional.

How do I2PL Skin Rejuvenation treatments work?

Treatments with laser and with intense pulsed light both work in a similar way choosing wavelengths that are absorbed by specific targets. However, while a laser uses light with one specific wavelength, intense pulsed light uses a band of wavelengths. Short, safe bursts of light are emitted from a flash-lamp to treat very specific skin conditions. The sophisticated, technology from the Ellipse system very carefully controls the overall delivery of the light – both the amount of light and the speed of its delivery to your specific skin condition are exact and precisely controlled to maximize your improvement. The light energy is absorbed by the targeted damaged tissue and improvement is seen over a period of up to 4 weeks.
