To begin our tip of the week we wanted to do an brief overview of the skin because the more you understand about the skin, the better you will understand why we offer the suggestions we do….
As you may know, the skin is the largest organ of the bod and is made up of two primary layers that have distinct functions. The epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the outer skin layer that forms a barrier to the outside world. The underlying layer, the dermis, is responsible for 90% of the skin’s density. Our skin is also a reflection of our internal health.
Regular use of the appropriate topical skin care products that preserve, promote and protect healthy skin will lead to a radiant and youthful complexions. Skin wellness is achieved by fighting free radicals and inflammation, increasing cell turnover and stimulating collagen production resulting in beautiful skin.
Using the proper cleanser, anti oxidant, and sun protection is the basic and most important steps to begin with. We will dive into these different steps over the next few weeks. So the first tip is: Never go to bed without washing your face if you want to have healthy radiant skin. (No matter how tired you are!) Take the time to wash with a facial cleansing gel or cream, not soap… then apply appropriate anti oxidant before exposure to the environment to fight free radicals, followed by sun protection. In the evening you should wash, and apply appropriate moisturizer. This is the most basic tip but our starting point See you next week!!
Also, send us any questions that we can answer as well!! As always, you are always welcome to come by for a complimentary consultation using our woods lamp to help identify various skin conditions.
